Welcome to Silviahemmet!

Silviahemmet is a non profit foundation devoted to improving the quality of life for those afflicted by dementia and their families. The Foundation was inaugurated by our founder, H M Queen Silvia on Valentines Day 1996.

Due to her mother being stricken by dementia, the Queen had herself seen the large need for education for practical nurses. Together with a handful of energetic friends and experts she started the building of a foundation that today stands out as the spearhead within dementia education for practical nurses.

Today Silviahemmet runs a small day-care at Drottningholm. The foundation also continues to educates practical nurses and nurses as well as many others engaged in the elderly care. The foundation certifies the education level for nursing units and has been co-founding the government funded Swedish Dementia Center.

Since a few years back the foundation has started an international operation and co-operates with Malteserorden in Germany and JSCI in Japan.
